Rows for rent by period and date, other amounts, any late charge and the total outstanding.

  • Payments received since

How payments since the last statement were applied, and the date the account was checked.

  • What the landlord asks for

An amount, a date and how to pay, and a request for the date, amount and method if the tenant says they have paid.

  • Room to talk

An invitation to make contact before the date if the tenant cannot pay everything, with a named person.

  • If payment is not made

A blank for the steps the lease allows, a late-charge line, a way to dispute the figures and a statement that part payment gives up nothing.

About this document

A late rent notice is a landlord's or agent's letter telling a tenant that rent has not been received. It sets out the tenancy, the periods and amounts outstanding, payments since, what the landlord asks for and by when, an invitation to talk if the tenant cannot pay in full and any late-payment charge the lease provides for.

This blank form is a letter to complete by hand, and has a signature line for the tenant to acknowledge it. It is not a statutory notice to pay or quit or any other formal step. States set their own rules on the form, content, period and delivery of such notices, and on late charges, and a letter like this does not replace them.

Questions

About the late-rent notices

  • Not necessarily. States have their own required notices before an eviction process, with set wording and periods. This letter does not replace one.
